Traveling in Norrath

One of the amazing things about EverQuest is just how huge the world is. With five vast continents on Norrath, and then Luclin as well, traveling can be quite an undertaking. Here is a look at how we get around.

There are a few themes that play in different places in the game. Here is one that can be heard when sailing on the Ocean of Tears. Give a listen.

The ship Stormbreaker approaches the dock at Freeport. Stormbreaker and her sister ship SirensBane travel between Freeport and the Butcherblock Mountains on the continent of Faydwer across the Ocean of Tears. Passing near an island in the Ocean of Tears enroute to the Butcherblock Mountains.
Another pair of ships, Sea King and the Golden Maiden, provide passage between the city Qeynos on the west coast of Antonica and Erudin, a city on the continent of Odus. An odd shuttle runs travelers back and forth between the ships and the docks at Erudin...
...then the ships proceed back across Erud's Crossing to Qeynos. The trip to the continent of Kunark starts with a trip on a shuttle.
The shuttles depart from the docks at the Butcherblock Mountains. The shuttles are necessary, because the Maiden's Voyage is far too large to approach the port in Butcherblock. I had to get this picture from quite a way off just to fit all of on the screen at once.
A closer look at this magnificent Elven vessel. On board the Maiden's Voyage enroute to Firiona Vie. I really want to get a picture of this ship under full sail.
Docked at Firiona Vie at twilight. Evil folks aren't welcomed by the Elves of Firiona Vie. Those in league with the forces of darkness must travel to Kunark on a slightly less regal conveyance...the Bloated Belly barge!
A broken ship's bow and part of the keel on a big barge, with a mast, a sail, and several barrels to help keep it afloat. Despite appearances, the Bloated Belly will get the Minions of Darkness where they want to go. The Bloated Belly gets underway after making it's stop at the outpost in an area of Kunark called "The Overthere".
The frozen continent of Velious was discovered by gnomish explorers using an icebreaker of their own creation. It's still the only game in town for getting to Velious by non-magical means. The Icebreaker docked at one of the Icy Fingers Islands in the Iceclad Ocean.
Some characters can travel by magical means. The Druids can teleport themselves and others from place to place using rings like this throughout the world. Although this druid ring in the Butcherblock Mountains has fallen into disrepair over the ages, it's magic remains.
Wizards are also able to use magic to travel. They take advantage of these ancient spires, remnants of the Combine Empire. This one can be found in the Greater Faydark forest. Another set of spires in the mountains of the Great Divide in Velious.
Another use for the spires has been recently discovered. They can be used to transport to Luclin, the moon of Norrath. Wizards can also teleport to many of the smaller pyramids like this one that are found throughout Norrath. Another gift from the ancients of the Combine Empire.
One of the teleportation pyramids almost completely buried by the encroaching sands of the Northern Desert of Ro. Both druids and wizards are able to magically travel to the icebound continent of Velious. They both use the Dragon Rings.
A closer look at one of the Dragon Rings in Velious. For those of us who are not wizards or druids, there is always one sure-fire way to travel through Norrath. And there are sure to be adventures along the way!
Recently, these podiums have appeared near cities all over Norrath and Luclin. If you touch one, you are whisked away.... ...to the Great Library in the Plane of Knowledge. From there you can go to any location that has a book podium. Getting from place to place just got a whole lot easier!!
